Information for Faculty and Staff
Faculty and staff at the University interact with copyright law on many different levels. When you write a book or an article, you usually own the copyright. As a copyright owner, you have rights to control the use and reproduction of your work. However, faculty and staff also use copyrighted information regularly, both in your research and in your teaching.
Teaching
Discusses the use of copyrighted material in teaching situations, both in the traditional classroom and in web-enhanced and distance learning environments.
Reserves
Focuses on the use of copyrighted materials for course reserves.
Publications/Research
Discusses the use of copyrighted material in the creation of original works as well as the application of copyright law to original works produced by university faculty and staff.
Fair Use Checklist
A checklist to evaluate whether or not your use of a document is considered "fair use." "Fair use" means that you do not need permission from the copyright holder to use the copyrighted document.
